Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Patrick W — 30 Aug 2016
This film actually wasn't bad. I was watching them just to say I reviewed the entire franchise and was pleasantly surprised.
This sequel really reminded me of the difference between Alien & Aliens. The first was a smaller time suspense flick & the second was more of an action flick in then vein of the first...
Frank Grillo is a much better leading man in this than Ethan Hawke was in the first one as well. Also, this film took advantage of the fact that it didn't need to really set up all of the "Purge backstory" because it took into account that you'd seen the first film. The Purge in this film acts as a back drop to a larger cat & mouse / urban warfare film. Think Hard Target meets Escape from New York to an extent. Still not the best movie, but this sequel was head & shoulders above it's predecessor.
