Review of The Purge (2013) by Brandon C — 01 Sep 2014
Very intense and disturbing. I love the concept, but the problem with the movie that I have is that I so vehemently disagree with the writers interpretation of human nature, his opinion the human creature is worse that William Golding's.
If you decriminalized everthing for 12 hours, things would happen, bad things would happen. But not the unabashed murder spree the writer of this movie thinks. I do appreciate the class differences of this dystopian future, that The Purge becomes a means of rich to hunt the poor, but the truth is I think the reverse is actually more likely.
The poor have the numbers and they would be more likely to steal everything of value from the rich and murder those that have really screwed them over. The acting was very good here, I especially liked Rhys Wakefield.
