Review of The Purge (2013) by Robbie K — 14 Oct 2018
Sat down to watch this basically thinking it would be some popcorn, horror trash and I was really pleasantly surprised. The first half is actually excellent, I feel idiotic comparing it with the brilliant 'Get Out' but the social critique works brilliantly and there is genuine tension as well in the initial home invasion threat.
The last 20mins are pretty standard, almost poor to be honest as we go for the low hanging action fruit but there was enough there in that first half for me to recommend this film definitely. I'm sure the sequel(s) are terrible.
