Review of The Purge (2013) by Jin T — 18 Aug 2018
Story has an interesting concept. Which is the annual "holiday" of The Purge. 12 hours of no laws and anything goes. Pretty much everyone killing each other while the others who don't like it at all, are hold up into their homes with barricades and what not.
For this first movie, we witness a rich family. Two out of touch parents with two kids, a stupid son and an edgy teen daughter who is also stupid. Things just go bad because of one small mishap. Luckily, they somehow got help.
Even if it was just too late. Ethan Hawke is not my favorite actor but he does a good performance. I never seen much of Lena Headey's performance outside of Game of Thrones, so it was interesting to watch her portray as a mother who somehow went all good throughout the movie.
When I mean good, even tho she is being told to by her husband who becomes erratic later. The son and the daughter are both I have my most gripes on. While it is interesting to have such characters, it is still annoying to witness such stupidity during a dangerous situation.
I can't tell if this could happen in real life if we actually have The Purge but I realized that it can happen like that somehow. Even in the most crazy, dangerous situation. I enjoyed the movie but when it was all over, I thought to myself that this movie is not that good but the concept of The Purge is still interesting.
