Review of The Punisher (2004) by Mesha B — 27 Jan 2013
This film is regarded by most as a flop but I hold it some what as a guilty pleasure. The cast on paper had potential but overall failed both individually and collectively. There aren't many names bigger than John Travolta, but this competes with some of his worst performances.
Will Patton, Ben Foster and the wrest of the majority are poor also. However part of me actually enjoyed Thomas Jane in the title role of the Punisher (Frank Castle). I would never of cast him as the Punisher as he doesnt physically do the character justice.
But there is something about him I thought was cool and he definatly has that action man look about him. I've thought before that it's a shame he's never really appeared in anything else, but most people however would probably consider this a blessing.
I also enjoyed Rob Scheider's small role, he was the only familiar face whom I enjoyed. The action and set pieces are enjoyable and the violence is daft but entertaining none the less. I enjoyed the opening sequence but then mid flow the film goes off at a tangent before finishing explosively.
The plot lacks originality an creativity but overall this film is worth a watch and I wouldn't quibble watching it again if I had to.
