Review of The Puffy Chair (2006) by Mark B — 10 Aug 2008
Anyone who doesn't like this movie because 'the characters are just shitty, annoying people, blah blah, boo-hoo' refuses to admit to themselves that they, like everyone else, are sometimes downright awful people too, especially to the ones that they love.
rather than being a melodramatic sob-fest that baumbach's movies tend to degenerate into, this is so well written and acted that it causes recognition rather than dopey melancholy. and that recognition may or may not cause some sort of thought and we may or may not give a fuck, I guess that depends on why you watch movies, but to deny a film like this because it's characters are too whiny? please get in line for the next pirates of the caribbean film immediately.
