Review of The Puffy Chair (2006) by John O — 02 Apr 2010
Likable feature debut by sibling filmmakers Jay and Mark Duplass. Mark stars as Josh, a struggling musician who decides to take a road trip back home for his father's birthday, picking up the titular chair along the way.
His girlfriend (Kathryn Aselton) tags along, but the stress of the trip strains the relationship, as does the eventual addition of Josh's brother to the journey. For all its low budget trappings, "The Puffy Chair" manages to capture the emotional core of a disintegrating relationship without all the theatrical histrionics of most Hollywood romantic comedies.
