Review of The Public Enemy (1931) by Jens T — 31 Jul 2010
I love the way Cagney just stares everyone down, sizing them up in every scene. He's menacing even before he shows his capacity for brutality. It's also interesting to see how influential this film is; it seems like every gangster flick borrows something from it.
From this initial viewing I noticed points used by Scorsese (in a bunch of his films), Leone in Once Upon a Time in America, and Mendes in Road to Perdition.
