Review of The Proud Valley (1940) by Jon D — 16 May 2010
A vehicle for Paul Robeson's powerful voice (which steals the show), The Proud Valley is a realistic portrait of a Welsh mining community affected by a mine disaster. With likeable protagonists and a heart wrenching climax, this somewhat overlooked film is a forgotten classic of community, morals and self-sacrifice.
