Review of The Proposition (2005) by Paul P — 31 Aug 2009
After one film i'm fully comfortable calling John Hillcoat a great director. While the story might be along the lines of other westerns you've seen, visually this movie is light years ahead of the field.
Although it has a fair amount of action it isn't action packed. It's more about mood and the unforgettable setting of the 19th century Australian outback. Hillcoat's attention to detail is astonishing.
Every nightmarish frame of this film is so authentically gritty you feel the need to shower afterwords. The cast is outstanding and everyone delivers great performances.
