Review of The Proposition (2005) by Jay L — 25 Jun 2011
"This land will be civilized.".
A very well-made and extremely violent modern day Western that takes place on the Australian outback during the 1800's. Director John Hillcoat crafted a hard-hitting knockout that's packed with extreme grit and hardboiled action. It's bloody as hell, heart-poundingly intense, unbelieveably edgy and edge of your seat western entertainment that's just a thrill-a-second. A fresh, compelling, and searingly original piece of riveting and strong traditional Western elements that come together in a symphony of pure hardcore entertainment. A visual powerhouse of eye-popping intensity and pure beauty that's scenic and just an optical pleasing blast of gorgeous cinematography. A great story, plentiful action, nonstop violence, jaw-dropping shootouts and dynamite action sequences all make The Proposition a worthwhile and ultimately thrilling piece of modern western entertainment. Mixed with old fashioned Western elements and modern day concepts, The Proposition is a must-see for any fan of the genre.
The acting is superior, very well done by everyone involved. A searingly well-done and convincing performance from Guy Pearce. Ray Winstone is excellent throughout. Danny Huston and Richard Williams are great. All have electrifying chemistry with one another.
