Review of The Proposition (2005) by Hereward P — 01 Aug 2009
A bleak, violent Australian-set western. Scripted by Nick Cave and with a soundtrack by Warren Ellis (Cave's "Grinderman" collaborator), this film packs a heavy emotional punch as well as keeping the audience guessing how it will turn out.
Whilst none of the characters are particularly likeable, we find ourselves rooting for Ray Winstone's Captain Stanley in his fruitless quest to "civilise" the land.
