Wow. This was pretty intense. I wanted to see this because Nick Cave wrote it. This isn't the Nick Cave who wrote the tender music for "Winged Migrations", it's more the Nick Cave who wrote the album "Murder Ballads".

That's pretty much what this movie is. It's a Western that's set in the Australian Outback, which is an interesting variant on a well-tread genre. "The Proposition" is made by a sheriff who captures an outlaw.

It's for him to kill his older diabolical brother so his naive younger brother's life will be spared. Considering the crimes of his older brother, the outlaw takes him up on the deal, which of course gets complicated.

The movie wrestles with a number of weighty themes, like justice, family, torture, racism, forgiveness, greed, all those classics. You'll find no moments of levity here. Beautiful soundtrack by Nick Cave though.

It's a very well-acted and beautifully shot movie. I recommend it to those who like a serious Western (similar to "3:10 to Yuma" or "Unforgiven").
