Review of The Proposition (2005) by Marie-Francoise S — 18 May 2011
Amazing script, great cast, wonderful music and some genuinely gorgeous cinematography as well, the kind of stuff that makes PT Anderson and Terrence Malick blush.
Hillcoat makes a very impressive debut here. He knows how to mold characters and make them horrible yet beautiful. Pearce rarely disappoints and Ray Winstone's performance blew me away. But I have to mention John Hurt as well despite the short screen time he gets. He delivers the most authentic performance in the film. Its a shame this great actor have not won a major award all these years.
I loved both The Proposition and The Road also directed by Hillcoat. Two wonderfully bleak but not depressing films!
