Review of The Proposition (2005) by Mike B — 24 Sep 2012
John Hillcoat is a director who knows how to exactly transport his cinematic vision to screen and in this film is his clearest and most distinctive achievement. There is sweat, dirt, gunpowder and blood that staples on to your retinas from the first shot to the last. The Nick Cave script pulls no punches and it blurs morality and twists your perception of judgement and violence just as the characters involved come at those cross roads.
This film gets better every time I watch it and every time I am on different characters sides, experience a different gritty thrill but always end with a haunting chill up my spine when that final song is played and the credits appear.
