Review of The Proposal (2009) by Ryan V — 09 May 2012
Sandra Bullock is a shrewish office magnate who faces deportation. Desperate to remain in her lofty position, she forces a hapless subordinate (Ryan Reynolds) into a marriage of convenience. However, her cold exterior begins to melt when she meets her sham fiance's family in Alaska.
The formulaic mechanics of this movie are revealed by banal dialogue, stiff scenes, and ever-predictable plot "twists". Betty White gets a few fun moments in, but overall this film is a mediocre piece of treacle even by the low standards of romcoms.
