Review of The Promotion (2008) by Eric H — 08 Sep 2008
A movie that lacks focus, which is becoming more and more of a problem these days. They didn't want to make either character likable or evil, but that is required in a competition comedy. Instead, we're left with a couple of guys that we don't really like, but don't really hate, either, and we certainly don't care if they get a new job.
In a comedy, the audience needs someone to root for or at least needs both characters to be on the same good or evil level for it to be funny. It's like the screenwriter couldn't decide so he gave up and hoped for the best, but got the worst.
A waste of two good leading comedy actors. Sure, there are some decent moments, but it just ends up feeling like no one really cared about any of it.
