Review of The Promotion (2008) by Vicki B — 20 Dec 2008
I didn't expect to laugh as much watching this movie as I did. It's a good a little comedy. I say say little since it's less popular than other comedies that have starred Seann William Scott or John C. Reilly. It's worth giving a try though.
The 2 leads are good but what I found surprising is that Seann William Scott was a little better. He does a fine job in a role where for once he's a mature guy trying to support him and his wife (Jenna Fischer). He wants to get promoted so they can move out of their noisy apartment. He thinks he's a shoe in until a new guy played by John C. Reilly shows up and also wants the job.
I'm just not sure why he sees Reilly's character as a threat though. I mean the guys tries hard but he's a total screw up that no one at the job takes seriously. So it never really feels as if the Reilly character even has a shot at getting the job. But it is funny seeing him in awkward situations around his co-workers or superiors. It's still a better movie for him than Step Brothers was as well.
