Review of The Promise (2017) by Larry B — 21 Apr 2017
"The Promise" is a truly excellent movie that is so relevant for the issues that we are seeing in the Middle East. The movie brings out the best and worst of human nature, and the relationships between its key characters are compelling, realistic and heart rendering.
This is a modern version of Dr. Zhivago, with its emotional intrigues and immensely difficult historical backdrop. It is the best move that could have been made about the Turkish massacre of Armenians Christians almost exactly 100 years ago today. The acting is outstanding, the characters are robust, and the action parallels the historical realities of the time.
There are very many lessons to be learned from this movie about living life courageously, in the midst of adversity. Watching it is a life changing event.
