Review of The Promise (2017) by Salpi A — 22 Apr 2017
As an Armenian American, this movie is vastly important to me & very emotional, as it IS the story of my grandparents and parents. I would NOT be here today were it not for their escape from southern Turkey to Aleppo at the end of WW 1.
The film is beautifully photographed & true to history, but too much emphasis placed on the romantic triangle and not enough on the actual historical forces that evolved into the genocide of the Armenians.
