Review of The Promise (2017) by Karin C — 22 Apr 2017
Oscar Isaac was exceptional. Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon were excellent. Terry George did a great job bringing light to the Armenian Genocide for the first time in Hollywood. It is a great film.
He managed to say so much by showing so little. To the critics, the love story was important because so many people lost loved ones, and suffered through a hopeless and helpless time. To the critics that say that the love triangle fails to engage, both of the characters were spoken for, and at those times people had integrity and enough virtue to keep their emotions to themselves.
If you couldn't see the love that they had for one another, maybe you need to watch it again. To those critics that said the movie didn't show enough of the Genocide, I think it was tastefully done.
If Terry George showed anymore than he did, it would be a documentary. If you don't feel it was covered enough, there are many books and online resources to learn from. It is a must see movie !!!
