Review of The Promise (2017) by Tatyana K — 23 Apr 2017
I can see why the love story was incorporated into the film to keep the audience engaged in a story rather than turn this into yet another documentary that loses the attention span of many. The Promise paints the picture of a history that cannot be denied, bringing together and showing more of who Armenians are through culture, music and family better than I've ever seen and those that are not Armenian may not even pick up on.
The film was well done from a storytelling, acting, and cineyography point of view. I would see this film time and time again which unfortunately could never undo what happened to Armenians. However, proceeds of this film go to nonprofits and, just for that, it's worth the trip.
