The film on this extremely important subject could have been done in many ways. While I would prefer it to have been done in another genre, I think the harsh criticism is way over the board. Any love story can be called "cheesy" depending on your level of cynicism.
This love story is as old as the mankind and as real as the Armenian Genocide, during which it is unfolding. Beautifully acted and filmed, The Promise is definitely worth seeing.
