I purchased tickets for this movie before reading any reviews. I'm glad I did. The Promise is a well made & well told story about the Armenian massacre during WW1. Other reviews state that the love triangle is not engaging or that it bogs down the story.
I also read that in reviews of Anthropoid - I didn't find this true in either movie. The "love" story helped propel the movie & the characters through the plight of the Armenians. I will say the film is very sad.
Don't let the negative reviews stop you from this beautiful film.
