Review of The Promise (2017) by Blind M — 29 Apr 2017
The Promise is an important movie about a horror the world chooses and has chosen to ignore. It is folded around a Complicated love story that takes us from the familial warmth of a tiny Southeastern Turkey Armenian village to the vibrancy of Istanbul just after the turn of the last century before the world plunged totally into the First World War.
We see the sophisticated city sink under the hatred of the other as the Turks decide the Armenians are the enemy. We ache as families are ripped apart and whole villages are wiped out. This is history, true history made easier as we are swept up into hope for survival and love.
The American journalist,Myers, is a real man lost to history until this historic film, helps us understand the world situation and is heroically acted by Chris Beal. Turkish propaganda will try to keep you from seeing it.
Fight hatred and brutality and lies by going to see it and encouraging everyone to see this really good movie!!!
