Review of The Promise (2017) by Drew M — 28 Jul 2017
4 stars.
This epic about the Armenian genocide of 1915 is both sweepingly beautiful and heartbreaking. Terry George had crafted a drama that manages to show the atrocities commited in an engaging and effecting way. Oscar Isaac continues to show he is a well rounded and world class star on par with the best in the business.
The film is long. At it's center develops a bit of a love triangle. This could be something of a turn off for some, but unlike films like 'Pearl Harbor', this is not a pointless distraction. It takes it's time to tell a story on both national and personal levels and this is a story very much worthy of your time.
