Review of The Program (2015) by Stel P — 18 Sep 2015
For a film about such a rich falling from grace in the cycling community and sports world, who quite possibly could be a villain, the Program briskly cruises by almost like a greatest hits package with all of the bullet points that you have to hit in regards to what happened when, when he started juicing, recruiting his fall guys within his team, his rivalry with the press particularly David Walsh played here by Chris O'Dowd.
There is some decent use of archival footage and zippy cinematography with the riders going by, and Ben Foster was an uncanny casting choice to play the lead since he already bears a resemblance to said subject.
Coming from the same director as the Queen, thought there would have been a few more moments of the camera resting on some beats to expand on some ideas but for the most part plays as to a coles notes version bringing few new viewers to a person who has already been quiet covered over the last decade and change to due to his adversity as well as his huge fall.
Average.
