Review of The Professionals (1966) by Dave J — 11 Apr 2010
Enjoyable western from 1966, about a small bunch of "professionals" (each in his own field of work) being hired to locate and retrieve a kidnapped damsel in distress. Starts out as pretty much any conventional western, but has some intersting twists as it moves along.
The cast is star-struck, with big names like Burt Lancaster (in a cool role), Lee Marvin, Ralph Bellamy, Claudia Cardinale and last but not least; Jack Palance. The latter shines as the revolutionary Mexican who has kidnapped the wife of old big-shot Ralph Bellamy. Interesting to see Lancaster in a western, and his character is also an interesting one- seemingly disinterested in anything but money, but with a soft spot deep down.
Anyway, I found this to be a better than average western. Recommendable.
