Review of The Producers (1968) by Clint B — 01 Nov 2008
A classic comedy from comic genius Mel Brooks THE PRODUCERS is a brilliant send-up of Broadway musicals. The film is nothing short of hilarious and while it's not Brooks' best film it definately belongs up there with the likes of Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.
The cast is superb: Gene Wilder is hilariously neurotic; Zero Mostel is perfect as a sleazy Broadway producer; Kenneth Mars is brilliant as a zany German playwrite; and the rest of the cast shine just as bright.
The music from the not-so-doomed-to-fail "Springtime For Hitler" is brilliantly non-PC and actually well done. For any fan of Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Broadway, and non-PC insanity...you've got to see the original The Producers.
