Review of The Producers (1968) by Clayton W — 13 Jun 2009
The Producers is wonderfully written and acted. Mel Brooks does comedy like few others can, and the perfect pairing of Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder easily outshine the duo of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick (although, admittedly, I enjoyed the musical more simply because I love musicals). It was fun to see where some of the Broadway show's songs came from; a few are basically lines from the screenplay fleshed out.
There are many laugh-out-loud moments, the supporting cast is able, and the pacing is brisk. A comedy classic.
