Review of The Producers (1968) by Amanda C — 08 Sep 2010
This version is much slower than the remake, but also succeeds in feeling too rushed. It's not nearly as over the top as I expected it to be. Kenneth Mars is near impossible to understand, although his antics are still quite amusing.
Lee Meredith does well with her minimal screen time as Ulla, and Gene Wilder is Gene Wilder, but that works. The entire film is mildly amusing, with the exception of 'Springtime for Hitler' both the musical number and the exerpts, both of which are hilarious.
