Review of The Producers (1968) by Johnny T — 28 Oct 2013
A run-down Broadway producer and an accountant plot a scheme to get rich by producing a flop in the Nazi musical called Springtime for Hitler. One of the best comedies master of the genre Mel Brooks has ever made.
The concept feels fresh and original, the screenplay is delightfully witty and the cast plays the colourful characters memorably, while the direction, with its sheen, pays a quiet but priceless tribute to the great MGM musicals of old.
