Review of The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio (2005) by Stacie R — 10 Jul 2008
As an avid sweepstaker I was excited to see this movie w/ Julianne Moore's poignant portrayal of Evelyn Ryan - a hardworking wife and mother of 10 who had to be the breadwinner in spite of her abusive and alcoholic husband.
She was strong yet tender, exhibiting grace under pressure. This movie showed what the "faith of a mustard seed can do" and the power & resiliency of the human spirit. I enjoyed it. You will not laugh nearly as much as you tear up and this movie is both light-hearted and very deep.
My favorite line in the movie is when Evelyn sits down with one of her daughters who is crying and seeing a hard time. She says: "You have a marvelous mind and a beautiful heart and you can accomplish anything.
Everything is possible.".
