Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Mark C — 07 Oct 2009
Pippa Lee is a character who, right off the bat, you know has a dark past. Robin Wright Penn plays her so well that you almost don't need her to say anything. It's in her eyes, in the way she interacts with her husband and children.
And what a relationship they all have. Pippa Lee's past is riddled with mistakes and absurdities which have to be seen to be believed. But it all has its purpose, and it all plays out in very entertaining ways.
Through very small glimpses of Pippa's childhood, we completely understand why she is the way that she is, and why she chose the path that she did. It's a great character study hidden in a great story with hilarity, sadness, and redemption, albeit in the strangest of ways.
Like I said, it has to be seen to be believed.
