Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Vivian L — 31 Dec 2009
It's charming, surprising, and powerful in the right amount. Alan Arkin always plays such a nice, witty old man, and he packs such a silly punch with his round of wives and affairs--for a man who already had three heart attacks. I thought Keanu Reeves was going to be such a cliche, but he delivers just what the film needs, and I can say the same for Winona Ryder's character. She just got on my nerves for a second, but I'm glad about what happened to her. I think the best character in this film - aside from Penn herself - is her mother, played by Maria Bello. Her broken and bipolar mother put me on edge and placed a good amount of influence on Penn's character.
Julianne Moore, Blake Lively - loved them!!
Overall, the movie really said something.the storyline felt crisp and brand-new and original, and the whole flashback thing wasn't too much. Spunky and colorful. Everything just worked and all those broken pieces of angst fell into something quite beautiful!
