Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Kostas S — 04 Mar 2010
A good cast but boring (zzzz) movie. Basically, a middle-aged woman finally gets to live life on her own. Coming-of-age movies are usually for teenagers but Rebecca Miller (Arthur's daughter) decides her alter ego is married, has kids, husband cheats, then dies before Pippa Lee can find herself.
Penn is a quiet, minimal actress but it's hard to relate to her on screen since she looks like an ice princess. Blake Lively who plays the character at an earlier age is more engaging. Mario Bello suffers, Keanu Reeves is so laid-back that it's easy to forget him, and Julianne Moore is good as a lesbian photographer in a very small bit.
