Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Ola S — 30 Apr 2010
We have to get used to it whether we want to our not. The middleagers of today dealing with the 70s and this backlash of ours. This is a quite intelligent example of dealing.
It's all Woody Allen's fault, this way of making American actors talk in an everyday mood, at the same time making us notice every subtext there is. Rebecca Miller doesn't really have his script virtuosity, but people like Robin Wright Penn, Alan Arkin, Winona Ryder and not at least Keanu Reeves lift themselves, without acting above our heads.
You find yourself truly interested in this Pippa Lee, her past and the dysfunctional people around her. And sometimes you even get the same feeling of presence you may get watching a play at the theatre. OK, what happens is foreseeable, not at least the end, byt why not have another round of this, if it's done in this way?
