Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Ana B — 27 Jun 2010
I was expecting a chick flick and I encountered a very clever drama. Pippa is the quiet wife of a successful publisher and mother of 2 grown-up kids. She is in her early 50's helping her husband, 30 years her senior, to settle into retirement. She is classy, sensible and still beautiful. But that facade masks a quite a terrible youth marked for the troubled relationship with her mum, the abuse of drugs and the adulterous affair with her now husband.
There are a couple of very good twists in the story that make this movie worth watching. It is not predictable nor boring, and it is devoid of the stereotypical cliches ot the genre.
Superb cast with very good acting, especially the females, Maria Bello, Winona Ryder and Robin Wright Penn.
