Review of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) by Ale? N — 15 Jul 2009
Interesting and thought provoking, the film starts with an apparently uber-calm Robin Wright Penn play the role of devoted wife, and then chart her departure from that in the present, and chart the various other lives she's had through flash back.
A few things jarred, repeatedly being told Keanu Reeves was 35 didn't really help suspend my disbelief, I'm not quite sure Pippa could be as straight-laced as she appeared with the wild child past we later discover; and, the ending was all a bit sub-Thelma and Louise.
However, in the attempt to chart one woman's life it touches many chords. It's a pleasant surprise to go to a film with such high aspirations. All the cast, except Keanu, are fab, particularly Winona Ryder as a fruit loop and it makes for a very interesting hour and a half.
