Review of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970) by Jonathan S — 26 Jul 2009
Director Billy Wilder infuses the legend of Sherlock Holmes with quick wit and a lavish look and the cast is pretty good for the most part, but the case never seems worthy of Holmes. Like many film adaptations of the famous detective, the mystery is subverted by some visceral ploy such as special effects or some other cinematic novelty.
Not bad, but not the Sherlock Holmes I loved from the pages of Sir Arhtur Conan Doyle's writings.
