Review of The Princess of Nebraska (2008) by Frances G — 06 Aug 2008
The question is whether or not Wayne Wang knows what he is doing. There is a superficiality and trash aesthetic to this film which could be read one of two ways. Either he does this to echo the Chinesification of America - a life of clichés and empty dreams.
Or the film is just superficial. The characterization isn't always convincing to the point where the major epiphany in the heroin's journey is out of character. Some nice photography and, as recent releases go, it's okay.
