Review of The Princess Diaries (2001) by Ryan V — 06 May 2012
Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is a clumsy teenaged nerd who one day finds herself heir to the throne of a small European nation. Suddenly thrust into the role of princess, Mia must adapt to her new life, navigate a relationship with her poised grandmother (Julie Andrews), and try not to lose her personal identity.
The Princess Diaries has an obvious appeal to the fantasies of preteen girls, but it's also better written and better acted than this sort of thing usually is. I probably would've never seen it if my girlfriend didn't force me to, but I was pleased to discover that I laughed quite a few times.
