Review of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) by Gwid L — 29 Jan 2010
This movie was really, in my view, a let-down. With the previous movie such a big hit in the theaters, this movie was obviously hard to make, but still, I didn't enjoy it. The aim of a sequel is to success the prequel; in several movies, and books, this never happens, the author/director assuming that since it's such a hit, it doesn't need to be that great. Take JK Rowling, for example: She never made one book worse than the others. She made each one a wonderful (Or at least great) experience, and kept us captivated until the very last book. That's because if you want to laze off, at least do it in the LAST movie/book you're making, so that you can see the true potential the film can go to.
So, in my view, pretty much a letdown, but still a good movie all and all. Worth 3 stars? I think so. Worth 4 stars? In a very, very, very, very different universe... Somewhere where it could follow up it's prequel.
