Review of The Princess and the Frog (2009) by Trisha J — 07 Dec 2011
So even you consider the fact that it's a miracle the damn film was even MADE, it's surprising that The Princess and the Frog is not just good--it's great. I really commend the production team for making an old-school Disney movie in every sense, cliches and all. Except the movie doesn't feel like a retread of those films...it somehow feels fresh. Yes, the historical inaccuracies are there. And yes, Randy Newman's songs could have used some refining. BUT I feel like the songs really work for the moments in the film, despite the fact that you may not necessarily be humming them when the movie's over. It's charming, fun, and beautifully HAND DRAWN animated, and I think it's status as of right now is a bit underrated.
PS. A.O. Scott can SUCK IT. (He gave this film a negative review on At The Movies, my former favorite show, for those of you who don't know).
