Review of The Princess and the Frog (2009) by David F — 28 May 2012
Everybody I talk to seems to think that this movie was just, "okay." And, I admit, that was my initial thought at first viewing this movie. However, having recently seen it on television, my views toward it definitely changed.
The problem I think this movie had was that it was marketed a bit pretentiously. If you look at the original trailer for this movie, at the beginning you'll see clips from the first four movies of the Disney Renaissance. That gives the audience ridiculously high standards for this movie, because they expect this movie to be some kind of nostalgic throw-back to the "good old days" of the Renaissance. People walked into movie theaters with high expectations for this movie and, because of that, their opinions toward it were somewhat negative afterward.
I think this movie is great, don't get me wrong. I just think there were flaws in the way it was marketed for the aforementioned reasons.
