Review of The Prince of Tides (1991) by Tim C — 16 Jan 2009
Barbra Streisand's second movie as director is very faithful to the book for which it came from. The first time I saw this, I thought it was too focused on the romance between Lowenstein and Tom Wingo, and that Nick Nolte was miscast as Tom Wingo, and I've changed my mind about the focus.
The focus is dead on on dealing with one's horrid past affecting one's present, and deciding how to handle your present differently for the sake of the betterment of the future. If The Silence Of The Lambs didn't come out that same year, it would have received the Oscars it deserved.
