Review of The Prince of Tides (1991) by Jens T — 03 Dec 2011
Although Barbra Streisand's The Prince of Tides might seems like a soap opera at first, but I you actually decides to actually what this film, you might not be so disappointed at all, mostly because of the great performances by Streisand and Nick Nolte.
It's the story about the retired school teacher and football coach, Tom Wingo (Nolte) who is devastated after his brother died one year ago, and don't seems to find his way back to life. Another terrible event occurs when his sister Savannah (Melinda Dillon) is in treatment after a failed suicide attempt, and Tom must go to New York to talk to a psychiatrist, Dr.
Susan Lowenstein (Streisand) who wants to find out what caused her to attend suicide. Tom and Susan starts a romantic affair, after both their married once have left them. I not ashamed to say that I actually liked this movie.
Yes it is full of clichés but Nick Nolte's performance is just so great. A wild beast outside, but inside a tender loving man. Thumbs up.
