Review of The Prince of Egypt (1998) by William Z — 02 Feb 2012
"The Prince of Egypt" is a good take on a well-known story. Rather than make Moses out as this incredibly strong presence, he is played more as an "every-man" who gets into trouble and is wracked with inner turmoil at destroying his brother's kingdom.
The fact that more emphasis is placed on the relationship between Moses and Rameses instead of the things happening in a chronological sense is refreshing as it opens up the psychological doors. The music for the most part is great, and the animation is stellar, but as a whole it does not provide the emotional connection to make this version masterful.
Still however, it is very good. A marginal 3.5/4 stars.
