Review of The Prince of Egypt (1998) by Brandon W — 16 Aug 2013
When I first saw this movie when I was a kid. It scared the shit out of me. The songs were dark and spooky and I thought that the Plagues of Egypt, the raid on the Hebrew villages where they kill all the babies and when god kills every newborn who doesn't put lamb's blood on their door was terrifying.
Many years later, I hear some people talking about their favorite animated movies and this came up. So I decided to re-live the terror of my childhood. Now I can finally see the masterpiece this movie really is.
The score by Hans Zimmer is legendary! It is so epic and powerful and probably the best part of the movie. One actor who really stood out to me was Ralph Fiennes as Rameses. He is just so menacing! The only things that I find really annoying are the songs that the hebrews sing when they leave Egypt and the stupid "playing with the big boys now".
Overall, one of Dreamworks best movies!
