Review of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) by Kenneth G — 28 Apr 2008
Maggie Smith won a Oscar playing an eccentric and progressive school teacher in 1930's Edinburgh. Jean Brodie sees herself as a romantic symbol who has a strong influence on her young girls - an influence that has tragic consequences.
The film is more of a character study and was considered shocking in its day in that we see young girls coming of age and embracing their own sexuality.
